Holy Crap! Parcells Alert!

Whoa, where the hell did this come from? It looks like the Falcons are wooing Bill Parcells of Patriots and Cowboys fame. What makes it even more startling is that he'd effectively be in the front office, displacing Rich McKay as the VP/GM. McKay would stay on as president, assuming he accepted.

This would have a wide-ranging impact on how the Falcons do business. Parcells is a notorious hardass, so he would pick a coach who could enforce like he does. He would also be likely to look at players who play a hard-nose brand of football and a quarterback who has a cannon arm. This isn't a complaint, mind you. I just can't imagine a scenario in which Parcells the GM undergoes a drastic transformation of thinking from Parcells the coach.

For McKay, who has already been informed he won't be returning as GM, it's a pretty drastic change. If he agrees to stay on, he'll have quite a bit of input in personnel changes but will likely see his influence diminish as Parcells moves along. I expect he'd be much more likely to move to another team that would want him as a GM.

For the record, I don't think Parcells will actually take the job. It's just interesting to consider how abruptly the makeup of this team might change if he did.
