Open Thread: Atlanta at Tennessee

Who? Atlanta Falcons at Tennessee Titans, 1:00 PM ET
Where? LP Field, Nashville, Tennessee
Weather? Nice! Sunny, high in the 80's.
Fun Fact? The Falcons and Titans last played in 2003, when the Titans squeaked out a 38-31 victory at the Georgia Dome.
Injuries? Rod Coleman and DeAngelo Hall are both listed as questionable. Jon Babineaux is also definitely out. I expect everyone else to play.
Odds? Tennessee over Atlanta by 8.0, O/U 41.0
Foe? Jimmy and friends over at Music City Miracles have the lowdown on all things Titans.

Let's cut down the Titans!

Rush D
Alright, I am more than a bit concerned with the Titans rushing game and the fact that our D line is banged up.

Lendale White, Chris Brown AND of course VY's legs?  We gotta keep them in check somehow.

Let's matriculate the ball down the field boys.

Awesome play by DeAngelo
Give credit to Jamaal Anderson for forcing that fumble and a lot of credit to Hall for manging to pull that off. That's a huge play this early in the game.

Big D, now the O has to get it started
Second turnover, nice pick by Boley!!!  No Joey has to get it started on the other side of the line.  We are lucky to be tied after getting outgained on offense.  -3 yards of offense is unacceptable.

Big plays
...will kill you.  I wrote that in the comments during the first game of the season. It seems we are on the favorable end of that today.

What an awesome fake punt!!!  Alright, now we have the D and special teams going, let's see what the O can do.

That was freaking awesome
That almost never works in the NFL, but Pinner made things happen and they caught 'em off guard.

Interesting Spin
You know I don't think I have ever seen a fake punt run like that.  Usually it's a direct snap to the up back, but then to hand it off to the other upback?  AWESOME!!!

The Falcons finally start moving
Harrington's starting to warm up, it seems.

Nice stop on 4th and 1 by the Falcons
Boley is punching his Pro Bowl ticket pretty hard today.

The half ends
The Titans show some life and manage the field goal and we've got ourselves a tied game.

Some early impressions:

The Titans offense is sputtering, but you can see how Vince Young gets them moving. The Falcons will have to hit him as often as they can in the second half.

Harrington and the passing game need to find some consistency, because the running game is once again not even coming close to cutting it.

We can do this!
This game is very winnable.

Falcons hold fast again
Forcing the Titans to go for a field goal, which they make. It's now 13-13, and we need some offense that isn't a field goal (though I'll take that over nothing.)

A little concerned
So ANOTHER big play!  76 yard return.  Here is awhat I am worried about: The vertical passing game.  That was what bit us on the ass in the first couple of weeks.  Not getting the ball down the field. 13 completions for 86 yards?

Whiffed field goal
This is the Harrington most of us expected to have at this point in the season; not doing so hot. Some facet of the offense has to get it going about right damn now.

The playcalling has reverted
Joe Horn should not be catching a pass on third down that actually takes him backwards. Where's the downfield strikes?

Enf of the 3rd: Crazy
Alright, so this is one of the most maniacal games I have ever seen.  One minute there is a huge play, the next we blow it.  Defense and special teams serve up great field position and the offense just doesn't do anything.

I can't believe it's 20-13.This game could easily be like 30-7 in favor of either team!  This is crazy.

Norwood is a pro
In the return game. The Falcons need to capitalize on pretty good field position here to stay in this game.

I'm incredibly frustrated
By the playcalling and Joey Joe Joe here. He keeps throws these dinky passes five yards down the field when we need to move the ball. Why are we so timid?

Special Teams
In align to the maniacal nature of this game, this is both the best AND the worst game of the year for special teams.

Everyone knows how much I love me some Morty, but this whole one kicker in, one out BOTH missing FG's leads me to think that we just need to find ONE stable kicker.

My first worry is winning this game
If Leftwich comes in and starts spanking the Titans, then I'm all for it. The long-term headache that comes with this will have to be dealt with after the game.

Good point
I am just a little on the edge right now.

Little spark from Lefty
But nothing we can work with. The Falcons have to force a turnover and score some points.

by Dave the Falconer on Oct 7, 2007 3:54 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

AND THERE IT IS!!!!!!!!!
Holy crap. I am about to lose my mind. We have to do SOMETHING here.  I did notice the slight spark Lefty gave us, let's see if he can bring it on home.

Hayzeus H. Christie
This game is giving me an ulcer.

Leftwich chucks an interception
A very winnable game that now looks to nearly be over. I'm hugely disappointed in the team today.

But then we get it back
HOLY CRAP.  I think I am going to vomit.  Dunn to the one!

you proved my point Harrington
His two good games were flukes.  I have been watching his developement for years now and he has made no progress. As I said last week, Harrington sucks!

Joey or play calling?
Was it Joey being more conservative with his check downs or was it the play calling?  Either way I agree with your point that something was a miss.  13 completions for 80 some odd yards is BS.  His hot streak came when he decided to air it out.

Byron Likes the fans
Thats the only way I can explain how he overthrew 3 straight passes into the seats.  It wouldve been so sweet to see him hit Laurent in the end zone to tie the game....

Bobby's pissing off the players.
Its not only DeAngelo taking shots at Petrino, Crumpler doesn't seem too pleased either.
