Thread Of Open: Atlanta Falcons vs. New Orleans Saints

Who? Atlanta Falcons at New Orleans Saints, 1:00 PM ET

Where? Superdome, New Orleans, Louisiana

Weather? I'm running out of dome jokes. Let's just say the only thing raining down will be boos.

Fun Fact? The Saints are averaging less rushing yards per game than the Falcons by about 4 yards, making them improbably more futile than us. The numbers, by the way, are 93.5 to 89.8.

Injuries? Weiner's out, Nicholas is out, and I'll be damned if Crumpler plays.

Odds? NO over ATL by 8.0, 42.5 O/U

Foe? If you want to know more about the Saints (not that I would understand or condone that course of action), there's no better place to go than Canal Street Chronicles. There you'll find all the latest in Saints, including the 2007 slump, which has been very popular in New Orleans this year. Check it out now and read stuff, absolutely free.

Let's bring the paper bags back to Nawlins!

Leftwich and Roddy
Is beginning to look like a beautiful combination.

Rod Coleman blew it
Hall made a nice, opportunistic interception that was cancelled out by a dumb penalty. We can't do that and win.

Nice
We're in halftime having outplayed the Saints in the first half and having stopped them from scoring all over us. Let's hope Leftwich can keep it up and Norwood GETS SOME CARRIES!

Good 1st Half
I'm not sure why Boley was locked up on Henderson like that. He's been playing well and he'd probably gotten alot of press if he had made that play. But nothing over the top on his side of the field?

Good question
Devery Henderson doesn't exactly inspire fear in me.

Sad display by the D
We absolutely, positively cannot let that happen again. Asking this team to score too many points is a big request.

Geez
Thanks for the 35 minutes of hope Byron...

Arrrgh
Now Leftwich is hurt. This season is killing me.

Ahem
Dear Pet Rhino,

I want to support you, but your refusal to allow anyone but Dunn to carry the ball is trying my patience. Let me spell this out for you:

Jerious Norwood is currently the better running back. Run him more like you've said you will for every single week of the season.

Sincerely,
Dave

Penalties
Martrez Milner attempts to kill the drive himself.

Up to the D...
Glad Harrington is still in his "between the 20s" mode...

I'm beginning to wonder
If Joey Harrington practices voodoo in Atlanta. He gets signed as a backup, he starts because Vick gets in trouble. He gets benched for Leftwich and Leftwich gets hurt. Woe be to Chris Redman if he ever gets in a game.

Glad to see
Hall giving 8 yards of cushion at the Falcons' 20 to prevent the deep ball...

Game over?
Perhaps a Norwood miracle...

A touchdown will basically win it outright
How about a long Norwood kickoff return and a couple of nice, clock-chewing runs for the touchdown?

Renardo Foster now hurt
Here comes Chris Redman to play tackle.

And the Lions are whipping the Bucs
I feel like this game is the season. 9-7 might win the division but the record in the division could be the deciding factor...

These short passes are making me
Want to gouge my eyes out. Help me help you, Joey Harrington!

Stupid Call
It's in the book so I suppose it can be called. I'm not sure how it's a delay of game when it's time for more commercials...

WARRICK DUNN!
This has been a terrible season for Warrick, and that nice 5 yard penalty is really putting a capper on it. Stop running him, stop throwing to him, stop playing him unless he can somehow prove to you he's going to get it done. I'm so angry right now.

If the Falcons had a RB
taller then Dunn then perhaps those balls would have been caught. I seem to recall the Falcons have a RB taller then Dunn. I think his name is Norwood?

Never heard of the guy
Is he supposed to be good or something?

by Dave the Falconer on Oct 21, 2007 4:02 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

no he's rubbish....
....better to go with the slower more ineffective running back, that seems to be the theme of the team this year. age over quality.

Ugly loss
And I blame the coaching staff. The short passes, the handing it off to Dunn over and over again...it has to stop. I've had enough of this playcalling.

That's It
My Insta-Rum&Coke-reaction is:

Leftwich's injury will be used as a "told-you-so" for many writers, I don't see this injury as indicative of his reputation. He played well and the replays showing his helmet above the O/D Line battle is a shock to people used to seeing Vick pass. And now this injury, no matter how severe, will determine his future with the Falcons. I was impressed with his play. I wasn't sure if benching Harrington was the answer but Leftwich no doubtfully improved the team...

From what I've read, Dunn has been kept in on passing downs because Norwood has trouble in picking up blitzes. If that is truly the case, then Petrino might as well keep Norwood in the game the rest of the season.

The D played well, but the Falcons still lack a true MLB. Williams and Boley are keepers at OLB. Brooking's name wasn't called all game. He's not a good fit at this point in his career as a MLB and would he be an improvement at OLB over Williams and Boley?

How many years of these Falcons will their fans have to endure. Their ability (or lack thereof) keeps them in games. That costs me money in that as long as the Falcons are in the game then the bottle stays open...

With all that, I will look forward to next season.  A well known secret was that Vick was on the hot seat in this offense. Would Mckay/Blank have dumped Vick after an 8-8 season? That problem has been solved so...The Falcons cry of "Wait til Next Year!" sounds in Flowery Branch...

I've finally stopped cursing....
Less than two minutes in the game, down by six, near midfield, 4th and 13.... LET'S JUST ROLL OVER, PLAY DEAD, AND PUNT THE BALL.  They punted the ball.  They punted the damn ball.  Where's the guts?

And don't give me shit about strategy, they should have GONE FOR IT.

{Oh, apparently I'm not quite through cursing, huh?}
